Agro-Ecological Situations (AES)
Chittoor District is divided into five Agro-Ecological Situations based upon its rainfall, soil type, and irrigation sources (Medium irrigation canals, Minor irrigation Tanks, electrified wells & Tube wells and Rain fed situations). This type of categorization has been done essentially to prepare situation specific strategic research and extension plan. The 5 AESs are as follows.
AES – 1:	Red sandy loam – Rain fed – South west monsoon influenced.	Groundnut Crop in AES-1
AES – 2:	Red soil irrigated dry – Minor irrigation sources – North East Monsoon influenced.	Paddy Crop in AES – 2
AES – 3:	Red Soil – Irrigated dry – Minor irrigation sources –South West monsoon influenced.	Sugarcane crop in AES-3
AES – 4:	Clay loam – Medium irrigation sources.	Black gram in AES – 4
AES – 5:	Red sandy loams – Irrigated – Wells and Tube wells.	Mango Crop in AES – 5
		Sericulture – Mulberry crop in AES – 5
