Source of Innovation:  Non-receipt of sufficient rainfall and limited source of groundwater, it is difficult to cultivate Sugarcane, Paddy and Groundnut. To over come this the farmers should go for an alternative crops cultivation.

REASONS FOR ADOPTION        :

Enlightened by ATMA, Chittoor on alternative crops under ID conditions. The farmers of Palanamer Block have participated in the Exposure Visit to Indian Institute of Horticulture & Research, Bangalore and Indo-American Hybrid Seeds, Bangarlore. and the Hybrid vegetable cultivation in Karnataka State. The farmer impressed about the Hybrid vegetable cultivation and brought 4Kgs of Hybrid Beans (Krosur Beans) from Bangalore at the cost of Rs.85/- per Kg. and sown in an extent of 75 cents.

Yielding : The crop came to the 1st picking on 60th day. So far the farmer harvested 4 picking. In each picking he got 1500 Kgs. of Beans yield. The farmer is expecting another 4 to 5 pickings.

Marketing : The farmer sold the produce in Chennai and Palamaner markets @Rs.12/- / Kg. Over all he got Rs.72,000/- gross income and Rs.60,000/- as net income.

Achievement: The farmers is very happy about the income as he was used to get only Rs. 25,000/- income from this field from previous crop Sugarcane. The success story came in the local newspapers. On seeing it, the farmers from the neighbouring mandals have visited and nearly 10 to 12 farmers now taken up cultivation of Hybrid Beans.
