Source of Innovation: The principle crops of the district are Paddy, Groundnut and Sugarcane. Sugarcane is being cultivated in 35000 hectares in the District under irrigated conditions. The average yield of Sugarcane in the District is 35 M.T./Acres. Due to poor management, the farmers are not getting good yields.

 

REASONS FOR ADOPTION :

The farmer Sri G.Jayaram Naidu has taken up cultivation of Sugarcane in an extent of one acre. He is a small and marginal farmer and is a Sugarcane FIG member in the village. He has obtained a record yield of 110 MT/Ac in his field.

The farmer has applied FYM and Poultry manure 2 MT to the main field. The seed material i.e., Co62175 is treated in Malathion solution for control of scale insects. After 30-35 days, the farmer applied 19:19:19  4 bags and 50 Kgs urea. 

The crop has done with wrapped and popped on 30 day, 120 days and 160 days to avoid lodging. The BTT officers frequently visited the field and given timely advice.

 

Yielding: The BTT Officers i.e., Assistant Director of Agriculture, Agricultural Officer has visited the plot and conducted crop cutting experiments and recorded yield of 110 MTs/Ac which is three times to the normal yield. On an average each cane attained an hight of 4.6 meters.

Achievement:

The farmers from the surrounding villages visited the field and had discussions and known the reasons for getting highest yields and got inspiration from the farmer. The ATMA facilitated the farmer with Best Farmer Award on the Independence Day-2003.
