Chittoor District is having 6800 miner irrigation tanks, 680 major irrigation tanks and 6 reservoirs covering the Fish farmers from Srikalahasti, Pichatur, Renigunta, Piler, Rompicherla, Tirupati, Chittoor, Kuppam, Palamaner mandals of the District. Last year due to severe drought and lack of awareness no Fish and Prawn culture was taken up by the fish farmers, even though the Govt. has released Rs.3.00 lakhs amount, so this year we are giving Awareness Programme and afterwards sending the farmers to Nellore District for field visit. This year Rs.3.00 Crores budget was released by the Govt. of A.P. for Fish and Prawn Culture throughout the state and for Chittoor district an amount of Rs.10.00 lakhs worth of seed is going to be provided through DCCB / Market cess for purchase of Rs.54.00 lakhs fish finger lings and 38.00 lakhs prawn finger lings. If the farmers do Fish and Prawn culture in a better way they can improve their socio-economic condition. Prawn culture is 10 time more profitable than fish culture. For Prawn culture marketing tie-up is there. As on today head on Prawn is costing about Rs.250/- per Kg and head less Prawn is costing about Rs.500/- to 700/- per Kg.
