Activities through Regional Agriculture Research Station

            The District Agricultural Advisory Technological Training Centre, (DAATTC) Chittoor, (Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural University) has given a proposal for introduction of Maize cultivation in the Kharif Season, as an alternative crop to the Paddy & Sugarcane keeping in view of the water availability and demand for Poultry industry with the financial assistance of Agricultural Technology Management Agency under Field Programme component. 

 ATMA, Chittoor has conducted seminar on Maize cultivation and it is also agreed to supply Maize seed to the farmers on free of cost to an extend of 400Acre duly involving the Agricultural departmental officials and the Poultry association. M/s Balaji Hatcheries & VSN Hatcheries have agreed to supply the Poultry manure on free of cost as an incentive to the maize-growing farmers. They have also came forward to give minimum supporting price to the Maize growers. A pamphlet was also printed and distributed to the farmers during the 17th round of Janmabhoomi.

            Accordingly, more than 300 farmers were identified in the District for supply of Maize seed. Initially to cover 300Acres a quantity of 2500 Kg of Maize seed @ 8 Kgs per Acre has been planned to procure from M/s. Cauvery Seeds, Secunderabad and distribute through different stock points in the district.

            Since this is the first time that a new concept of Market assured crop is takenup in the district the tieup arrangement with private agency i.e., District Poultry Association and supply of Poultry manure on free of cost to the maize growing farmer as an incentive.

            The function of Maize seed distribution was inaugurated by the District Collector Sri P.V.Satyanarayana Murthy, I.A.S. on 29-06-2002 at NECC (National Egg Coordination Centre), Ramnagar Colony, Chittoor.

           The District Collector has agreed to supply seed on free of cost to an extent of 1000 acres and is agreed to release the amount for the procurement of maize seed. The requirement of maize seed is receiving from Agricultural Officers and the scheme will be implemented through the DAATTC, Chittoor.
